BLACK PANTHER – TEASER TRAILER

Trailers

Ryan Coogler always had a massive responsibility on his hands when he was selected to direct Marvel’s Black Panther. However, the teaser trailer has definitely set minds at ease that he is going to do the film and its represented ethnic group great justice. With the likes of Angela Bassett, Lupita N’yongo, Michael B Jordan and David Kaluuya, Black Panther has a stunning cast or black actors and actresses that are set to take the world by storm!

Chadwick Boseman is set to reprise his role as T’Challa on February 16th 2018
I cannot wait!

Okay, get ready to hate me and/or crucify me because you superhero/Marvel fans out there are not going to be happy about this one!

If you saw my previous post on Avengers Assemble you will know that i was less than pleased with that instalment of the franchise and the tradition seems to have continued. Needless to say, i didnt like it.

Now, before you jump down my throat let me tell you why. There are two types of people in the world who will watch this film: the Marvel/superhero experts and everyone else. I am a proud member of the everybody else club and as such i still expect to go into franchise/sequel films like Star Trek or Star Wars etc. and even having not seen the originals can follow the story. In this respect is why i did not like it. As a fan this was probably your version of multiple orgasms but for a Joe Bloggs movie goer i dont think it was easy enough to follow

  • Who is Ultron?
  • Why is he so angry?
  • Was he a person why he has this odd personality?
  • What happened to Jarvis?
  • Cant Tony make a new Jarvis? I mean, where is the backup USB data?
  • Why is Cap Am still so boring?
  • Why is Bruce still complaining that he’s the Hulk. Havent you had time to accept this by now?
  • Why does Thor keep going off and doing his own thing?
  • What was he doing in that water?
  • How/why is that water even there?
  • Who is that red man?
  • Is he good or bad?
  • Who pays for the city repairs?
  • Do they have airspace clearance for these jets?

I am fully aware that a lot of these questions can be answered by a true fanatic but my point stands that i should have been able to follow get the general idea of this withiut being a fan. As a regualr movie goer it made little sense and i was actually quite bored.

In all honesty it felt like waiting two years for the continuation of a television show. Just another episode featuring your local neighbiurhood superheros. Nothing spectacular happened, there were no especially amazing stunts, the dialogue left a lot to be desired and the attempt at extra back story with Natasha and Hawkeye was just dull.

Once again, a Marvel instalment has failed to impress me and as much as i can understand and respect the reasons why i didnt follow, i feel this is a short coming in its delivery.

REVIEW – CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Review

Starring: Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson,  Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan
Director: Anthony and Joe Russo
Running Time: 136mins
Cert: 12A

I’m getting a good feeling about this year of movies! For the second time in a row I have gone to the cinema and been pleasantly surprised at the outcome but in the case of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I am completely blown away!

We all know that the superhero/Marvel/DC franchise thing is all the rage right now but the first instalment of Captain America was needless to say a bit drab. Steve Rogers was pretty boring to say the least and even his outing in Avengers Assemble didn’t really tickle my funnies. However, Chris Evans has more then made up for what I thought were pretty mediocre films in this amazing second (or third depending how you look at it) outing for Captain Steve Rogers.

One of the greatest things about this film is that there is a LOT of fighting but not unnecessary fighting (think Superman) or unrealistic fighting (think Thor) or fighting particularly heavy on the technology (think Iron Man). Captain America is all about bare knuckled, alpha male brute strength that is amazing to watch. You feel his power and determination through every blow but what is interesting is when Captain America finally comes face to face with someone who he cant outrun. He has finally met his match in The Winter Soldier and what a match it is! Admittedly, I thought their final battle could have been a bit more spectacular but it doesn’t take anything away from the film because it maintains its pace throughout. There are no dull moments.

One thing that lets the film down however, is the fact that although the film is named after him, The Winter Soldier doesnt play that big a role. Without going into it too much to avoid spoilers, i thought he would have done more. When he is on screen, he clearly owns the show with his bad ass-isms but once he is revealed, his fear factor kind of disappears. In true Marvel style though, at the end of the film we are left more questions that will be answered in the coming sequels and yes, there will be one.

For all those that have seen the 300 sequel, you have already seen the first 20 mins of the film and this basically sets the precedence for the entire movie. Military expertise, Captain Rogers’ precisions as a leader and a fighter alongside good friend and equal bad ass Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff makes each scene exciting. Along with the ever amazing Nick Fury, we have a new member of the Marvel family in this instalment in the shape of Falcon/Sam Wilson who gives Captain Rogers the friend he is clearly in need of.

With great fight scenes, touching moments, a decent plot and too many awesome surprises to count, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is probably my favourite Marvel film, excluding Iron Man 1. Its exciting , surprising, well shot and an all round good time. Dont wait for it to come on Sky Box Office or watch online. Watch it now! 😀
