NEWS! NEW JOKER ORIGIN FILM IN THE WORKS!

It’s been announced that Warner Bros and DC are in the very early stages of an origin story for Batman’s signature arch nemesis, The Joker.

Set in the Batman Universe but not attached to any other iteration, the film will be directed by Martin Scorsese. Joining the famed director, are writers Todd Phillips and Scott Silver who scripted The Hangover and 8 Mile respectively.

Joker has been portrayed on-screen before, most memorably by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. and most recently by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. Leto is unlikely to play the lead in this film but will reprise his role in the Suicide Squad sequel and Harley Quinn spin-off. This movie is likely to cast someone younger and possibly unknown.

Nothing has been confirmed on where this will fit into the DC schedule but it will, as always be going up against the titan that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU already has a string of successes but with a director like Scorsese in the driver’s seat, things could get even darker with DC.

Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr writes, “The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”

Do you think this new outlook will give DC what it needs to propel the DCU? Do we need another character taking on such an iconic role as The Joker?

TOP TEN – Superhero Movies

TopTen

In light of all the Marvel hype recently, I started thinking about all the superhero films that I have enjoyed over the years. That resulted in a Top Ten of my favourite superhero films! Soooo, in no particular order we have……

1. Batman Forever

does-batman-forever-stand-the-test-of-time

Jim Carrey as The Riddler has me in absolute stitches every time I watch this film. It is by far nowhere near as serious as some other Batman films but it is funny and a guilty pleasure!

2. X Men Origins: Wolverine

x_men_origins_wolverine16

The first of many films that would feature our beloved Logan as the centre of attention, Origins was an awesome film that let us know about Wolverine’s beginnings and that he is in fact a nice guy. Victim of circumstances that one! Much better than the metal Samurai robot fiasco!

3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Once I saw Andrew Garfield take the helm as Spidey, I wondered who Tobey Maguire even was! He did such a great job in the first outing but is was this sequel with Jamie Foxx as the villain that solidified him in my book! Awesome awesome film!

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

We’ve discussed this before: the first film was kinda boring but the sequel more than made up for it. Steve Rogers got real bad ass in this film but still remained a sweetie. Awww!

5. Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer

Other than the change of Jessica Alba’s wig, this second instalment for the Fantastic Four was pretty good. The graphics and danger of the Silver Surfer were awesome and had me glued to the screen.

6. The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises 13Bane. That’s it.

7. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie

I don’t care what you say, when they turned into the Ninjeti with those rainbow ninja kits on, I WAS  a Power Ranger and you couldn’t tell me any different!

8. X Men: The Last Stand

Jean Grey was the star of this show. She was so bad she was good and I couldn’t get enough! The fact that Beast came into it was even better!

9.  Batman Returns

Batman_Returns_PosterWith the original Batman that is Michael Keaton, Batman Returns was absolutely amazing with Michell Pfeifer as Catwoman with that sexy voice and Danny De Vito as Penguin. It was dark, it was sexy, it was awesome!

10.  Judge Dredd

You might not consider this a superhero film but I LOVE Judge Dredd! “I never broke the law, I AM THE LAW!” Mate! I was finished from then. Awesome stuff.

****

Now, there are of course many films that are not on this list including all the modern day Superman failures including Man of Steel and none of the Iron Man films. There’s a reason for this….they’re not good.

GAMBIT, FAST 7 & EXPLOSIVE TRAILERS – MOVIE NEWS!!

Coming Soon

A few movie tid bits this morning to get the blood flowing! In anticipation for seeing The Amazing Spiderman 2 this evening, I’ve gone a bit superhero for the first two bits of news…

X MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST TRAILER

The final trailer for X Men: Days of Future Past is here and looks absolutely incredible! Its going to be such a treat to see all of our favourite characters all in the same film working together. Introduced by the lovely Aussie Hugh Jackman, this trailer will certainly get you hyped for the next X instalment!

CHANNING TATUM IS GAMBIT?

It has long been a rumour that Channing Tatum was going to play Gambit, a rumour that so many X fans wanted to be true and it seems that that truth may be closer than we think (sorry Taylor Kitsch fans!) Tatum has confirmed that he has been in talks with producer Laura Schuler Donner about picking up the role of the Southern rebel and that if the movie stars all align then he would definitely accept the role. I for one think it will be an awesome step for Channing who although has had a hit films, is still lacking in the big franchise department and i think this will give his name/career the push it deserves.

FAST 7 WILL CONTINUE WITH TWO WALKERS…

Since the devastating loss of Fast franchise front man Paul Walker last November, there was always going to be speculation about how the film makers were going to continue the film without him. The Fast crew have announced however that the iconic Brian O’Connor will not be “killed off” as previously thought but instead go into some kind of retirement. In order to finish this and shoot some scenes that Paul was not able to complete, they have recruited Paul’s brother’s Cody and Caleb to help out. I think this is a lovely way to complete the story and we know his brothers will more than try their best to keep his Fast legacy alive. Fast 7 will be out  in the US April 10 2015.
